Title: Colors ~ Melody and Harmony
Artist: Jaejoong and Yoochun from Tohoshinki/TVXQ/DBSK
Rating: 5/5
Genre: Pop, RnB, Vocal
Language: Japanese
Length: 5:34
Link to Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL3Y8ZokKKg&feature=fvw

"Colors ~ Melody and Harmony" is the first single for Tohoshinki members Hero Jaejoong and Micky Yoochun to put out seperate from the super group that they've been calling home. Contrary to other tracks before, "Colors" was written and composed by both Jaejoong and Yoochun, music, lyrics and all, as well as the accompanying track on the single, "Shelter".
It did incredibly well on the Oricon charts, topping at #1 in the weekly and monthly sales and gaining a GOLD standing. The song is incredibly catchy as it is beautiful, the lyrics meaningful and the vibe calming. This song is a MUST for download or purchace, you won't stop wanting to listen to it.

Perri's Pet Peeve: There is something missing from this song, and I am pretty sure it is the other three members of their group. Even though I personally adore both Yoochun and Jaejoong and their beautiful compositions on this single, I can't help but feel like part of the...something that could have made this whole, is missing.

Title: Super Girl
Artist: Super Junior M
Rating: 4/5
Genre: Pop, Techno, Electronic
Language: Chinese
Length: 3:45
Link to Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pit7RS4mPI0

Super Junior M, the sub-group of popular S. Korean boyband Super Junior (13 members) has moved to China to try and conquer the charts there as Tohoshinki is doing in Japan. As much as I actually don't care for Chinese pop music, this song, for some reason, is incredibly addictive and catchy to me. I believe it may be because I have an affinity for EuroBeat Pop and this song is DEFINETLY influenced but the EuroBeat Pop popular in Germany and the United Kingdom. All in all, its a good song worth at least one listen...and maybe a bit of booty shaking.

Perri's Pet Peeve: The repeating of "my love, my love, my love" is a bit much, but I can ignore it for now.

Title: Abracadabra
Artist: Brown Eyed Girls
Rating: 4/5
Genre: Pop, Electronic
Language: Korean
Length: 3:40

Addictive beat. That's what this song is all about. Sexy music video, catchy beat and consistant autotone. I have liked Brown Eyed Girls since forever, but this song really kind of cemented their comeback as being one word, "AWESOME".

: Come Back to Me
Artist: Hikaru Utada (Utada)
Genre: Pop, R&B
Length: 3:57
Link to Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPd_c0X1b3w

"Come Back to Me" is the first single decided to be released off Hikaru Utada's new American album, "This Is the One". Trying to debut (for the second time) into the American market, Utada seemed to actually set the bar high for her new album. The entire album is full of catchy beats and soaring emotions, but this song in-particular stands out with its heart-felt lyrics and simple melody. The beat lands well in the pop/r&b category and may just get her the hit song she has been waiting for here in the USA. Personally, I love her music, everything she makes seems to be a hit in Japan, I only hope that America will accept her for the talent she honestly is.

Perri's Pet Peeve: Love Utada, but sometimes her lyrics get a little out of the ordinary. Great example, her first try at American debut with the song, "Easy Breezy", when she decided to sing, "You're easy breezy and I'm Japanesey." One word of advice: No.

Title: Again and Again
Artist: 2PM
Genre: Pop/Rap
Length: 4:05
Rating: 8/10
Link to Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUgReo37ECw

2PM is relatively new on the music scene in S. Korea, yet they are making waves with their interesting sounds, catchy beats and emotional voices.  The newest song off their single EP, "2PM Time For A Change", soared the band to new heights, making them #1 on many music countdowns and scoring #1 on the Hanteo charts.  The song, "Again and Again" is a mid-tempo dance groove, deep base accompaning the crisp vocals of the 6 boys as they mourn the loss of a lover. The song is enjoyable and makes you want to dance, they remind me a lot of either Chris Brown or Ne-Yo here in America.  Its catchy, very catchy, as I caught myself humming along to it in my head during Japanese class...it was slightly embarassing.

Perri's Pet Peeve: It gets repetitive after a while, just like a lot of the latest Korean songs seem to do now-a-days.

Welcome to Pop_In_Asia, the livejournal for Communications and Media student, Perriwynkkle (online name, whose dream is to host a show on either the Travel Chanel, MTV or VH1 all about Asia and the wonderous and usually hilarious world of Asian pop music.

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved Japan and Korea, specifically, for their popular culture and popular music. The tastes in both of these coutries differ incredibly and the markets fluxuate all the time.

Japan may be the larger and more known of the two countries, but Korea has a booming entertainment economy with a wide range of talented stars all contributing in the Hallyu Wave which has been sweeping the world since around 2001.
Yet don't leave Japan out! Being the second largest economy in the world, Japan brings ecclectic, forever changing tastes to music lovers. From traditional enka to screaming hard rock, no one knows who will top the Oricon Charts next.

I will review the major popular songs of both Korea and Japan, showcasing two songs each week for as long as I keep intrest in this journal.

If you don't like my comments you can kiss my ass.

Comments are enjoyed, especially if you have CONSTRUCTIVE opinions and not HARSH/ANTI-FAN objections. (Of the band, singer, or sadly, me...)

Thank you for your time, I will start with reviews as soon as I can.
